Spring Fest 2024

Welcome to the Henderson Spring LGBTQ+ Center's 2024 Spring Fest! Join us for a weeklong celebration from April 1 to 6, 2024, with events designed to educate, empower, and unite Mountaineers of all identities, especially our LGBTQ+ community of App State. Spring Fest promises an enriching experience for everyone.

Monday, April 1

Brown Bag Lunch and Learn! Transgender Affirming Services Clinic
Time: Noon – 3:00 p.m.
Location: PSU 137 B

Led by Dr. Isaacs from App Family Medicine and Karla Rusch from the Student Legal Clinic, this clinic aims to provide affirming services to LGBTQ+ students while welcoming students of all identities to access valuable resources and support. Bring your lunch and learn from medical professionals.

Tuesday, April 2

Taste of Dialogue: Gender, Sexuality, and Travel
Time: 12:30 – 1:45 p.m.
Location: Plemmons Student Union RM. 100 (New River)

A facilitated dialogue over lunch about how gender identity and sexuality influence experiences of travel both domestically and abroad. Share your own past travels (or future plans, too!) and how your identities shaped those experiences. Free lunch is provided to the first 15 students to RSVP on Engage. A collaborative event hosted by the Henderson Springs LGBTQ+ Center, the Office of Community-Engaged Leadership (CEL), and the Office of International Education and Development (OIED).

 

Film Screening of Orlando, My Political Biography
Time: 6 – 9 p.m.
Location: Greenbriar Theatre in Plemmons Student Union

A Documentary showcasing a unique queer experience, encouraging dialogue and reflection on LGBTQ+ identity and representation. Hosted by the Department of Gender and Women Studies and in partnership with the Henderson Springs LGBTQ+ Center.

 

Wednesday, April 3

Wellness and Prevention Services’ Sexual Health Expo
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Location: International Hallway inside Plemmons Student Union

Essential information and resources about sexual health for all students.


LGBTQ+ Expressive Arts Event
Time: 3:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Location: Reich College of Education

Come out and contribute to a collective mural, paint your own rock, and enjoy some expressive arts movement activities. A creative outlet for students to express themselves through art and embracing their identity. The Cratis D. Williams School of Graduate Studies is excited to partner with the Counseling CenterClinical Mental Health CounselingMusic Therapy, and Marriage and Family Therapy graduate students.

Campus Support and Network Trivia
Time: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Location: International Hallway of Plemmons Student Union
 

Graduate Student LGBTQ+ Center Takeover!
Time: 2:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Location: Henderson Springs LGBTQ+ Center (International Hallway of Plemmons Student Union)

Mark your calendars for a special gathering for graduate students to enjoy the Henderson Springs LGBTQ+ Center with other fellow grads. This takeover event is designed exclusively for graduate students to unite, share their concerns, celebrate successes and connect.

App State's campus student support network is here to serve all students and strives to maintain a safe and welcoming community. This event provides an opportunity for you to learn more about how to seek assistance for yourself or a peer in the event of a crisis or urgent need. Get to know professional staff members serving in a wide variety of campus support departments who are eager to engage with you. Help us continue to foster a help seeking culture at App State! Test your knowledge of campus support network trivia for a chance to win fun PRIZES!

LGBTQ+ 1st Thursday Graduate Meeting: Spring Fest Edition!
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Howard’s Knob Patio in Plemmons Student Union

A dedicated space for LGBTQ+ graduate students to connect and support each other. All graduate students are welcome to participate.

 

Friday, April 5

Ice Cream for Spring! LGBTQ+ Spring Fest Ice Cream Social
Time: 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Howard’s Knob Patio in Plemmons Student Union

The “Ice Cream for Spring!” ice cream social will be a relaxed event for students to socialize and enjoy ice cream in the sunshine, connecting and celebrating! Takeaways include resources, fidgets, coping tool kits, stickers, and Gus, the therapy dog! Hosted by the Henderson Springs LGBTQ+ Center in partnership with Counseling and Psychological Services.

 

Saturday, April 6

Studying Abroad While Out in the World
Time: 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.
Location: Belk Library Room 421

Gain valuable information about App State’s study abroad program, with insights from LGBTQ+-identified staff members. All students are welcome to learn about navigating study abroad experiences while embracing diversity. Hosted by the Office of International Education and Development.
